Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad, Chairman Higher Education Commission Islamabad, paid a visit to Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development, Khairpur on April 23, 2026.
He was warmly welcomed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr.
Rasool Bux Mahar . In his welcome address, Prof. Mahar highlighted the pivotal role of the HEC in transforming the higher education landscape of Pakistan by promoting quality education, fostering research, and strengthening institutional capacity across the country. He further noted that Prof. Akhter’s visionary leadership continues to guide universities toward innovation, excellence, and relevance in a rapidly evolving global environment.
During the visit, the Chairman HEC inaugurated the University’s newly constructed Multipurpose Hall and a real-time Air Quality Monitoring System. This marks a significant technological advancement and is among the first such initiatives introduced in public sector universities of Sindh. The facilities are expected to greatly enhance academic, co-curricular, and professional activities on campus.
Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhter also witnessed a technical exhibition organized by the University, where students from various departments showcased their innovative projects. The students demonstrated their work, reflecting the institution’s strong emphasis on practical learning and skill development.
As part of the visit, the Chairman HEC planted a tree sapling at the new campus. Among others present on the occasion were Prof. Dr. Saleem Raza Samo, Vice Chancellor QUEST Nawabshah, and Mr. Suleman Ahmed, Regional Director HEC Sindh.
The Chairman HEC appreciated the efforts of the Vice Chancellor, faculty, and students in promoting technical education and encouraging innovation. He expressed satisfaction over the quality of the projects displayed and urged students and faculty to continue striving for excellence. He also emphasized the need to further refine and strengthen these projects to make them commercially viable and competitive in international markets.
The Vice Chancellor briefed the Chairman HEC on the University’s academic programs, future plans, and ongoing development initiatives.
