BBSUTECH Condemns Indus Water Treaty Withdrawal

On behalf of the faculty, officers, and staff of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skills Development, Khairpur Mirs, I, Prof. Dr.Rasool Bux Mahar, Vice Chancellor, express my strong condemnation of the recent unilateral decision by India to withdraw from the Indus Water Treaty. This decision threatens the long-standing framework that has provided equitable distribution of water resources between Pakistan and India for over six decades. The Indus Water Treaty has been a cornerstone of peace, cooperation, and regional stability, ensuring that both countries share the vital Indus River system in a manner that benefits millions of people. India’s decision to abandon this agreement not only risks the livelihoods of countless individuals who rely on this water for agriculture, drinking, and daily life, but it also undermines the principles of diplomacy and mutual respect that are essential to maintaining peaceful relations between our nations. We, at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, urgently request the intervention of international institutions to apply diplomatic pressure on India to honor the Indus Water Treaty and return to a path of cooperative management of shared water resources. The stability of the region, and the future well-being of both Pakistan and India, depends on mutual respect for this critical agreement. We call on the international community to stand in solidarity with those affected by this unilateral decision, and we urge that efforts be made to restore dialogue and ensure that the principles of the treaty are upheld for the benefit of all. The future of millions depends on our collective ability to protect shared resources and promote sustainable, peaceful solutions.
